Synchronization

Cannot sync home folder with server when both are using wireless router supplied by A1.

When using the standard router supplied by A1, there is no ability to dictate the DHCP settings required to successfully bind the mobile computer to the server. This however, is a requirement in order to synchronize the home folder of the mobile computer with the home folder of the Open Directory user account. The DHCP settings required by the mediaBox used by A1 for sending IPTV content to the television prevents using the server with an arbitrary domain. Rather, A1 dictates a local domain of .home be used for all their devices.

Transfer contacts from Nokia Phone (Symbian) to Google Phone (Android)

In the company I worked, I used Windows, Outllok and Nokia Phone N97mini. During that time I managed all my contacts at my company phone, which was used as private phone too. There is the standard tool from Nokia to synchronize contacts between Windows Outlook and the phone, called "PC Suite". In fact with PC suite there is much more possible, e.g. writing SMS messages on the PC (which is much more convinient). Unfortunately there is no such tool for the Android driven Google phone, so one cannot easily transfer the contacts stored in outlook to Android. Additionally my private computer runs with Linux, while the company computer is Windows driven. I want to transfer the contacts from my Nokia Phone to the Android-phone (Google Nexus).

Synchronise folders between Linux server and client

I sometimes find myself in a situation where I work on one project but use several different computer systems (all of which run Linux) for that. An example would be an exercise for university which I work on at home on my PC but then take my laptop to university to discuss it with colleagues. Always keeping all the files up to date on both systems is tedious and I often forget to do so. Hence my motivation for the challenge. I have a small server at home which runs 24/7 and is also accessible from outside via SSH. I want to use that as something of a central storage unit for project folders. For that I need a system in place that automatically synchronizes selected local folders to and from that server. The synchronization should occur without me having to initialize it as I'd surely forget that. "Synchronization" in this context means that all files present in a folder on one machine should also be present in an identically named folder on the other one. If a file has a more recent modification date on one machine than on the other the more recent file should replace the older one. Tracking the changes or keeping a history of changes is not necessary. To sum it up:

file synchronization between Linux client and server

no graphical user interface server side

SSH access to server

automated, no user input necessary

Regards and thanks for any input.

Google Calendar / Outlook Calendar sync

The challenge is to synchronize goggle calendar with outlook 2007. It is needed to synchronize both ways. (Editing an entry in outlook --> synchronize and editing an entry in google online calendar --> synchronize).

Open Remote Tabs

Nowadays, there are many different browsers available. Sometimes we want or have to change between them because every browser has its advantages and disadvantages. Furthermore, at work, people often use a different browser (e.g. Internet Explorer) than at home (e.g. Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox). Now, when coming home, there should be an easy way to re-open the tabs they had open at work or simply at a different location. Every modern browser allows to open many tabs. However, it is not easy to move these tabs from one browser to another. Challenge:

Find an easy way to open tabs in the browser of your choice that you recently opened in another browser.

Choose at least two different browsers to work with.

This should also work when the remote browser is already closed.

Synchronizing Sony Ericsson cell with MyPhoneExplorer

Use the software myPhoneExplorer which is freeware. The cell phone is able to use Bluetooth, but I prefer using the wire. Plug the wire in your cell phone and connect it with the pc. The cell phone recognises it has been connected to a pc, so it offers two different ways to connect: telephone mode and data mode. Choose the telephone mode for synchronization with myPhoneExplorer. In myPhoneExplorer, use the menu and choose “File” – “Connect”. The software automatically detects the connected cell phone. If it doesn’t, choose “File” – “Options” – “Connection” – “Cell phone search”. After connecting the cell phone, you have to define the program you want it to synchronize with. Press “File” – “Options” – “Synchronization” and choose “Outlook 2003” or whatever your prefered software is, from the drop down menu. Then just choose the “Contact”-section on the left main menu, press “Synchronise” on top, and your cell phone synchronizes the contacts with Outlook. You have to define which contacts have the higher priority, if they occur multiple times. But the software mostly gets it right – it chooses the newest information.

Synchronize web browser bookmarks

Since there are several different web browsers on the market, the need may arise to synchronize ones bookmarks throughout the different browsers, without having to do so manually. The question is, how to do this in an easy and clean way, so that even beginners can handle the task.

Merge your Outlook and Gmail contacts

You use Outlook as your Personal Information Manager, which includes your contacts and Gmail as your email platform. The problem is you can write email using both Outlook and Gmail, but the 2 don't share the same address book. So there is a need to merge the address book of Gmail and Outlook so that you don't have to do the "dirty" copy and paste job when you use either Outlook or Gmail for writing email

Synchronizing Data (Lotus Notes, Adressbook, Calendar) to Nokia mobile phones

Hardware Issues: To accomplish this a usb-bluetooth adapter has been set up and installed on the desktop station. Software Issues: The software dealing with the data transfer, as well as with the synchronisation is the Nokia PC Suite. It's a free software which can be downloaded on the nokia software download side of your country. The install of the software on each personel computers worked fine, but the bluetooth connection to the mobile phone could not be established for domain users. Setting up a connection only worked for local users as well as domain administrators.
