How to reliably stop autoplay of videos on various websites

Autoplaying of videos on various websites (Facebook, Youtube, or other websites where the advertisement plays automatically) can be annoying sometimes. What is the possibility to disable such behavior in favorite browsers file Chrome, Opera or Firefox ?

Unfortunately in some browsers isn't such functionality built in therefore it is necessary to use some tricks or extensions. As well as it is necessary to differentiate between HTML5 and Flash video.

Chrome
HTML5
Such functionality will be built-in the Chrome since January 2018, now following can be used:
Disable HTML5 autoplay extension

Flash videos
In the Chrome menu, go to settings and scroll down to Show Advanced Settings. Click this and under the Privacy heading, click Content Settings. In the pop-up window, scroll down to Plug-ins and select the Click to play radio button.

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful.
(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste media*play and pause while the list is filtered
(3) To delay media from auto-starting in background tabs, I suggest: double-click the media.block-play-until-visible preference to switch the value from false to true
(4) To prevent media from auto-starting in any tabs: double-click the media.autoplay.enabled preference to switch the value from true to false

The solution to this problems depends on the browser you are using but for example in chrome would be :
1.Go to “chrome://flags” in the URL bar and hit Return/Enter
2.In the search box at the top, type in “autoplay”
3.Look for “Autoplay policy” and pull down the submenu, then choose “Document user activation is required”
4.Relaunch Chrome for the setting to take effect

You can also stop videos from playing automatically in Facebook News Feed.
You can turn off Facebook video autoplay settings on or off if you want to stop videos from playing automatically on your Windows computer:
Click Settings > Click Videos > Autoplay Videos Drop-down Menu > Select Off.

For Safari (macOS High Sierra):
1. When on website make a right-click the URL area and select option "Settings for This Website"
2. In appeared dialog box hover the cursor to "Auto-Play"
3. In menu choose preferable option: "Allow All Auto-Play", "Stop Media with Sound", "Never Auto-Play".

Chrome will hopefully offer this settings option (disable autoplay) in the next release (Chrome 64), expected on January 2018. So no extensions will be required, although they are very helpful now!
