establish client server connection available for private LAN over different continents

To teach the usage of client SW to a customer in India, I had to connect the client PC in the course room in India with the server machine in Austria. For security reasons there was no internal private company network available.

VPN connection

With the help of our network administrators in Austria and India and the Austrian Telco provider a Virtual Private Network connection could be set up between the sites in Bangalore and Vienna.
After the connection was established, the setup worked in the same way as if in the intranet.
