Change Log On Background (Mac)

The default background of the log on screen can be found under
/System/ Library/CoreServices and file is named "DefaultDesktop.JPG".

Before replacing this file by another, it's nice to have a copy stored somewhere else (in case of restore is required).
Image properties of the new picture should be 2560 × 1600 pixel with a resolution of 72 pixel per inch (for Mac Book 13,3''). (optional)
Afterwards the new picture is renamed into "DefaultDesktop.JPG". Go to the directory /System/ Library/CoreServices and overwrite the old default background with the new picture.
Change can be seen after reboot.

Change Log On Background (Mac)

At first the storage location of the default background has to be detected. Once found the file should get replaced by another picture. Optionally, image properties of the new picture could get adjusted to the default picture.

Get CompetenceCockpit working in Safari

Log in to TechScreen using the Safari web-browser. Then go to Competence Cockpit, there you see the section "Manage Competences". On the first run voting for competences is possible. However when trying to vote for a second competence the drop-down lists for selecting which competence to vote on is not visible anymore. Using Firefox on Mac OS X works.

Securing an iPhone / iPod touch with installed SSH Server

Many iPhone owners have installed an application for the iPhone that provides SSH - Secure Shell - server functionality. This implies the accessability from external hardware such as PCs or Macs. However, this access is not suffieciently secured as it does use standard credentials.

Many incident have already ocurred in which an unauthorized access has happened. This can cost a lot of money by losing important data, abuse of sensitive credentials or system destruction. However, the usage of SSH is very comfortable for loading files to an external machine.

The most recent incident was a Worm that requested some money from the iPhone users to secure the iPhone.

The solution should be usable on Max OS X, Windows and Linux, because I am using all three systems. It is does not matter, if the solution is usable using some tools or the command-line.

How to share an Internet via Mac OS Leopard to other computers

If your Mac computer has an Internet from Chello, the only way to share it is the following steps: 1. Go to Control Panel (you find it in your Finder) 2. From the menu Internet and Network choose Sharing 3. After this step, you see on your Control Panel, a list of computer's sharing possibilities (File sharing, Web sharing, Screen Sharing and so on....) 4. Choose an Internet sharing 5. Define how to use an Internet together (through Ethernet in this case) 6. Define how the other computers get your Internet (throhgh Airport in this case) 7. Further more you could define a password in order to protect your connection from unknown users, or just leave without password if you dont mind that other unknown users use your Internet. That are probably all steps!!! And it should definitely work, if you follow this instruction clearly.

Installation of an iCal Server on Mac OS X Leopard

Apple’s description of the iCal Server installation process is very scarce. Apple’s Directory service is required to authenticate users and a correct DNS configuration is required to enable Directory service. DNS is a problem if you have a local network installed with Airport.
