There is a proxy based on VPN (Virtual Private Network). It will allow us to see multimedia content, since it is not a browser application or a website, but completely alters our public IP address, making the websites that receive our requests believe that we are in another geographical location.
The name of this proxy is porXPN. It has a free version but also a premium version.

Some of the ISPs in Czech Republic are providing free secured VPN for their customers to remote into their network from anywhere. Try to check option if your home ISP is providing the same (or any other in your country). This information is not usually mentioned in the papers - you have to ask support or technicians.

Use rasdial in Windows 7 Task Scheduler

The proposed solution consists of two steps.

  1. Creation of VPN connection
  2. Scheduling of task

For this solution you will need a VPN connection in Windows' integrated service (you need to have login data for a VPN service for this)
This is accessed via the Control Panel under Network and Internet -> Network and Sharing Center.

  • Click 'Set up a new connection or network'
  • Choose 'Connect to a workplace'
  • Choose 'Use my Internet connection'
  • Input the VPN's internet address and a name of your choosing for the connection (you will need this name later on)
  • Input your login credentials

Now you should be able to log into your VPN.

Once thats done we set up an automatic task in the task scheduler:

  • Click the start button
  • Click Control panel
  • Click System and Maintenance
  • Click Administrative Tools
  • Double-click Task Scheduler

Now that we have accessed the task schedular we create a new task:

  • Click 'create task' on the right and a window opens
  • There input a name for your task
  • Switch to the Trigger tab
  • Click on 'New'
  • From the dropdown menu choose 'at startup'
  • Check 'enabled' at the bottom and confirm with 'OK'
  • Switch to the Actions tab
  • Click on 'New'
  • From the dropdown menu choose 'Start a program'
  • In the field 'Program/script' write "rasdial"
  • In the field 'Add arguments' write "name_of_connection username password" (keep the " and replace with your login credentials)
  • Confirm by clicking OK twice
  • Now the VPN connection should always be established at startup

Connect to the VPN of the university

I know that the university is subscribed to almost all digital libraries on the Internet. That means I can access all the publications for free, if I connect to the digital library through the university's network. To do that, I need to search for instructions on how to connect to the Virtual Private Network (VPN) of the university, follow the instructions and download the publication to my computer.

Using VPN to connect to TUWien network

Potential users are members of the TU Vienna, who have Internet Connectivity of any kind (but not with a TUNET IP address).
When using this service a TUNET IP address will be dynamically assigned to you. In cases where rights on Institute servers should be set on the basis of an IP address, employees (only!) may also be assigned a fixed address. For this service there are no additional costs involved. Employees can use their Network Account (username@tuwien.ac.at) to gain admittance. Students can use their Student Account (eXXXXXXX@student.tuwien.ac.at) to gain admittance. Other Accounts (username@vpn.tuwien.ac.at) can be requested via the Online Account Management.
and also with CISCO SSL VPN Client (AnyConnect) you can use VPN.Cisco Anyconnect is a VPN client based on SSL technology. The software can be installed directly from our VPN-Webportal. Available for Windows (32-Bit and 64-Bit), Linux, Mac OS X.

VPN maybe necessary

Hi!

Since a few months it is necessary to establish a vpn connection if you e.g. want to connect to your TU webspace.
So you may try to connect to the TU via vpn and then try to establish the connection via putty.
