Welcome to TechScreen

Welcome to the TechScreen site. This side shall support the exchange of knowledge in the domain of Web Engineering and related aspects. As a side effect, this side is used for research on knowledge management technologies. User can pose challenges in the problem domain and can participate in quizzes. Further a bibliography about arcticles in different related domains is continously extended. Finally, questionnaires on different issues are provided. SSL certificate on Microsoft IIS Server not working

While trying to establish a secure SSL connection for a webservice i encountered the problem that IIS did load the certificate but when trying to access the service with some other program the SSL connection timed out. Though IIS did somehow indicate that this URL needed a SSL connection (in comparison: if i tried to connect by some other port than 443 with an SSL request i didn't get a timeout), i can't figure out the problem, cause i can view the certificate in windows regulary and assume it is correct.

Slow MySQL execution over Network under Java

If an application and the connected database is developed and tested on one single machine, code optimization and design of queries may suffer due to instant access time and nearly no transfer time between database and application. However, if you put the Application and Database on different machines such design flaws can lead to horrible processing times. There are several fields that may cause problems in that case. One problem is transferring of many records from or to database.

Creating database for text classfication

Internet seams the best choice because we are interested in choosing different types of data. The restriction for my test is that I want that the positive data contains only onelines(short jokes). The negative data in order to have a good classification has to have the same structure(short sentences).

Windows Services can't be started or stopped anymore

If vital Main Windows Services are deactivated it may happen that you don't have some function available anymore. These are services/functions like Internet Access, Network Setting, Hardware Settings, Update Center, Installations or Service Manager. The most critical problem here is the Service Manager. This problem is caused when you shutdown the "Plug & Play"-Service which is needed for starting and stopping other Services. It gets even worse if you find out that it is also not possible to fix this problem by system restore or also protected mode.

Create personalized Templates for Open Office for business letters in Windows

Business letters often need in addition to the company logos and information, some personalized information about the user which is writing and or sendig this letter. Such information would be, the name, telephone number, email adress and so on. There is a function in Microsoft Office which offers such a solution. It is possible to show 'document variables'. These variables can be filled with data take from the registration with VBA (Visual Basic Application). Unfortunatly there is no equal function available in Open Office.

Entering a wrong Worpress blog URL

If you running a wordpress blog on your own webspace, you have to enter the blog and wordpress URL under Admin Control Panel -> Settings. If you later change this address to a wrong one, your blog will not be working fine anymore. And since you entered the wrong URL you cannot login to the ACP, thus you can not change anything back. What's the key to get your blog running again?

Using RDF(S) without XML.

RDF can be written in some ways: A RDF triple could be represented through a RDF graph, through FOL expressions like P(X,Y), or - most common used for web development - through XML. There are some good RDF/XML parsers for the most common web development languages like Perl or Python. But is there another way of writing RDF, which is supported by a parser for programming/script languages?

Synchronizing Data (Lotus Notes, Adressbook, Calendar) to Nokia mobile phones

Hardware Issues: To accomplish this a usb-bluetooth adapter has been set up and installed on the desktop station. Software Issues: The software dealing with the data transfer, as well as with the synchronisation is the Nokia PC Suite. It's a free software which can be downloaded on the nokia software download side of your country. The install of the software on each personel computers worked fine, but the bluetooth connection to the mobile phone could not be established for domain users. Setting up a connection only worked for local users as well as domain administrators.

Windows XP Installer Problem

I am running Windows XP Home Edition on my computer. After I installed the operating system, it works properly and without problems. Every now and then, sometimes after 2 weeks, sometimes after 3 months, my Windows XP Installer gets damaged. Unfortunatly I can't make out the reason. I already tried to set the system back to a system restore point but it didn't work. By meaning the Windows XP Installer gets damaged i mean, if I try to install programs with the Windows-Installers the message: "Windows Installer service could not be accessed.
